Today the initiators of the group ‘’We are Against Foreign Language Schools Reopening’’ raised their protest opposite the National Assembly building. With the slogan ‘’Qualified Education for Everybody, ‘’No’’ to Foreign Language Schools’’ they remind the president of the National Assembly once again that they are going to struggle up to the end. According to the activist of the initiative Armen Hovhannisyan, this is their next in turn action, lest anyone should think that the issue has lost its importance, or they have forgotten about their demands. ‘’Notorious projects roam from one four-day sitting to another and they are quite likely to be discussed in this sitting’’, said Hovhannisyan adding they are well aware about what is going on inside (in the National Assembly). He also said that in case the projects are discussed or put to vote, they will be informed beforehand and take more serious steps. Hovhannisyan also informed that their strategic plan has not changed. ‘’ If this law is passed, it won’t be put into practice, if these schools are founded, they won’t work’’.
‘’It’s important to win the war, and not the battle’’, said he, explaining that the victory of the government and the deputies having voted for the project is not a victory, but defeat, as it is a defeat for the public. It is a defeat for themselves as well, as the ‘’decayed bridge’’ still existing between the authorities and the public is burning.
In response to one of the journalists’ question whether there is nothing positive in reopening foreign language schools, the activist of the initiative answered: ‘’If our country is attacked and captured we can find something positive theoretically, but should we do that? Our aim is to protect our country, our independence, our public education, our language and our national values’’, said Hovhannisyan.
It should be mentioned that a few members of the initiative picket at the entrance of the National Assembly every morning reminding about their demands.
By the way, the initiative group considers the list of candidates of Delyanov-Ashotyan prize winners in the sphere of ‘’otaralizutyun’’. According to Hovhannisyan, the list changes day by day.
‘’As for me, I suggest that the list should include the name of Gyumri mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, who declared at the meeting with the Patriarch of Russian Orthodox Church that the residents of Gyumri want to rename Gyumri as Aleksandrapol’’.
Hovhannisyan said that the list will be available for public at large after it has been replenished with new names.
