An exhibition of manuscript collections from Matenadaran library was held in Beirut
Culture, Daily news | ankakh | April 3, 2010 0:22A festive opening of the exhibition of manuscript collections from Matenadaran library was held at the UNESCO gallery in Beirut. The event was organized in joint efforts of the Ministry of Culture of Lebanon and the Embassy of Armenia in Lebanon. The event was carried out under the aegis of the program ‘Beirut as the World Book Capital 2009’. After the hymns of Armenia and Lebanon had played, the Ambassador of Armenia in Lebanon Ashot Kocharyan made an opening speech.
He stressed the importance of the cultural cooperation between Armenia and Lebanon and gave details of the Matenadaran Library as well as expressed his gratitude for the assistance that the Ministry of Culture of Lebanon provided in organizing the event on its soil. The head coordinator of the program ‘Beirut as the World Book Capital 2009’ and the representative of the Ministry of Culture of Lebanon Leila Baracat welcomed the participation of Armenia in the program and made special mention of the role of the Armenian community of Lebanon in the life of the country’s society. Matendaran head curator Gevorg Ter-Vardanyan presented details about the manuscripts of the 19th century. During the event, pictures and a film about Armenia were shown and pieces of classical Armenia music were played.
The representatives of the government of Lebanon, spiritual leader, ministers and deputies of the national Assembly of Armenian, ambassadors, cultural workers and media representatives attended the event.
