On March 3, 2011, Ambassador Marie L. Yovanovitch and AUA Provost and Vice President Dr. Lucig Danielian opened the 2011 Women’s Mentoring Program for American University of Armenia students and women mentors.  The women mentors will provide career advice, share their personal experiences, and serve as role models to 56 promising young students.  Ambassador Yovanovitch and Dr. Danielian delivered the keynote speeches at the event.

A good mentor is a valuable asset in a young woman’s development.  Mentors impart knowledge and experience and help cultivate the next generation of woman leaders.  This program will enable young Armenian women to develop their professional interests and talents, while also highlighting the importance of giving back to the community.

In her remarks, Ambassador Yovanovitch noted that “Armenia needs women to take the lead in addressing the issues that it confronts today.  Women represent over 50% of Armenia’s population – and Armenia needs every woman’s talent, courage and strength.  No country can afford to ignore half of its human capacity.”

She congratulated the women on their participation in the program and wished them success in their future endeavors.
