Red Cross paid first visit of 2011 to Armenian hostages in Azerbaijan
People, Daily news | ankakh | January 26, 2011 16:59The Red Cross international organization’s representatives paid their first visit of 2011 to the hostages under Azerbaijan’s control, Ashot Astabatsyan, the head of Red Cross communication department told Panorama.am.
Red Cross representative said he couldn’t tell anything about the hostages’ health because of confidential rules. “That was a general visit that we usually pay them,” Astabatsyan said.
Currently, 12 Armenians, including 6 servicemen and 6 citizens, are kept hostage in Azerbaijan.
Referring to the declaration signed in Astrakhan between the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan, which defined the norms exchanging the hostages, Red Cross representative said the organization is a mediator and as soon as the sides agreed they would implement their duties.
