“Locals burn down the grass thinking harvest for the next year will be better
SOCIETY, Daily news | ankakh | December 20, 2010 17:57One can hardly stop fires in the territory of “Dilijan” National Park which are caused by locals. According to Ararat Alikhanyan, Coordinator for the Aarhus Center in Dilijan, only within two days the fire brigades and National Park employees managed to out off the fire and to prevent its spread form meadows to the forest.
“Locals burn down the grass thinking harvest for the next year will be better. But we currently have very dry weather, that’s why 30-40 ha have burnt down. We are lucky to put out the fire, as these places are hard-to-get-to for cars,” Alikhanyan said.
