Karen Karapetyan was elected Yerevan mayor

Yerevan’s new mayor is Chairman of ArmRusgasprom Board Karen Karapetyan. Karapetyan was elected by an extraordinary vote by the members of the today. Yerevan  Council of Elders confirmed his candidacy with fifty-one votes for and 1 against. On December 16, Council of the ruling Republican party decided to nominate Chairman of ArmRusgasprom Board Karen Karapetyan. In Yerevan Council of Elders the RPA has 35 mandates, making up majority.

Yerevan’s new mayor was born in 1963, on August 14.

In 1970-1980 he studied at school after L.Tolstoy.

In 1980-1985 studied at YSU, department of Applied Mathematics, and graduated from it with a diploma with honours.

In 1985-1996 he worked in RA calculation center, in the Association of science and culture.    In the meantime, he taught at YSU.

In 1996-1998 he worked in ‘’Hayenergo’’, as Vice Chairman.

In 1998-2001 he was the Chairman of ‘’Hayenergo’’.

In 2001 was appointed vice minister in the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the RA.

Since 2001has been Chairman of ArmRusgasprom Board.

In 1989 he got his Economics PhD, has got 17 scientific works.

In 2006 was awarded Anania Shirakatci medal, according to the President’s decree.

In 2008 was elected  ‘’Areksimbank’’  Board Chairman.

In 2008 was awarded Anania Shirakatci medal, according to Nagorno Karabakh President’s decree.

In 2010 got his doctoral degree in Economics.

Karen Karapetyan is married. Has three children.
