The expert on the genocide:’’The execution of the sentence is related to the international power ratio’’
SOCIETY, Daily news | Haykuhi Barseghyan | December 15, 2010 14:43Today in Ani Plaza Hotel scientists and experts from 18 countries all over the world discussed the mechanisms and approaches of eliminating the consequences of the genocide within the framework of the conference on ‘’The Crime of Genocide: Prevention, Condemnation and Consequence Elimination’’. American Armenian historian, expert on the Genocide Vahagn Dadryan says the Genoide should be viewed from three aspects: objective investigation, among them prosecution of criminals, trial and sentence. Dadryan says in case of the Armenian Genocide the sentence has been daleyed for an unknown period of time.
Dadryan thinks that the execution of the sentence is connected with the ratio of forces in international sphere. The historian mentions that the Newrenberg Sentence on the Jewish Holocaust was executed as the Nazis had lost in World War II.
According to him, the Ottoman Empire carrying out the Genocide had also lost in World War I and the criminals had been prosecuted for two years in succession. ‘’But before the sentence could be executed the ratio of international force changed, due to the rise of Kemals the international right was repulsed’’, says Dadryan.
He also adds that the interests of powerful states having won in World War I dissociated, the allies disjoined, which set grounds for the sentence not to be executed. Previously Turkey accepted the Genocide and the Sultan considered what had happened to the Armenians a crime against humanity. But later Turkey, which was becoming stronger and stronger, came to conduct a repulsive policy.
