Vic Darchinyan Loses to Abner Mares in a Split Points Decision

Australian boxing champion Vic Darchinyan loses to Mexico’s Abner Mares in a split points decision in an action-packed bantamweight world title fight in Takoma, USA. In the second round, Darchinyan knocked Mares down with a straight left hand, but Mares went on fighting and in the seventh round  it was Darchinyan’s turn to hit the canvas when Mares fired a left hand that caught the Australian off balance. Abner Mares was dominant for the other five rounds. The Mexican won in a split points decision: two referees scored the fight 115:112, 114:111 to Mares, and the third referee scored the fight 115:111 to Darchinyan.
