Against Encyclopedic Fraud”: New Initiative with Youth Potential
Headline, SOCIETY, Daily news | Ani Gasparyan | December 2, 2010 14:45Since September 24, the “Ankakh” has had an object to draw public attention on the false information about Armenia published in «Большая иллюстрированная энциклопедия географии». The Encyclopedia was published in Britain and republished in Russia. The ‘’Ankakh’’ also calls to account both the British and Russian publishers.
Consulting a number of advocates and lawyers from independent and state institutions, we realized that before starting a judicial act, this issue first and foremost must gain public recognition at large.
A few days ago “Ankakh” initiated a meeting with the representatives of youth organizations who are also concerned with the problem. The problems discussed included the initiative of protesting against the Russian publisher, the request of denial, as well as the question of starting a judicial act.
We decided to create a proactive group, called “Against Encyclopedic Fraud”, which will co-ordinate and carry out the plans. The first step aims at starting online campaigns: there will be established a social group for the volunteers to join the initiative. Next, an official letter will be sent on behalf of the initiative group.
Then, a protest march will be held, during which letters will be given to the British and Russian embassies urging that the latter support the request of denial.
At present the initiative group includes the Student Union ARF “Nikol Aghbalyan, the youth NGO called ”Let’s Go Together“, the youth movement ”Together“, ”Advocacy Coalition of NGOs “, the organization “Sardarapat’’, the student union ‘’Hayk” from the ‘’Heritage Party’’, the State Engineering University Students’ Council, the weekly ‘’Ankakh’’.
