Yerevan Taxi as a Mirror of our Society
SOCIETY, Weekly news | Ani Gasparyan | November 29, 2010 9:00
A journalist from the diaspora, the historian Gevork Yazichyan was an interesting list of names of taxi services in our city, which included 750 names.
“Taxis are a mirror of society, – the Yazichyan – in developed countries all taxis have the same color, such as during the Soviet period, they were yellow. However, we are all in terrible condition – and ourselves a taxi and their names. ”
Yazichyan all calls in one word – adzhapsandal, but if we can assume adzhapsandal Armenian dishes, then the comparison is unfortunate, because their name is nothing to do with the Armenians do not have. “In 95 percent of Armenian either absent or used latinnitsa – he said – but if the title is written by Armenian words does not mean that it is in Armenian. Let him not try to fool people.”
In his collection of about 70 percent of English words in Latin letters. If the word “taxi”, written in Latin letters is not so bad, that their names not “take to heart” simply impossible.
Incidentally, the word Yazichyan found a taxi and the Turkish language.
Historian brought the matter to the Chief State Inspectorate language Sergo Yeritsyan. The latter agreed that 80 percent of taxis are foreign names, but confirming this fact, yet took no steps.
So we give some interesting examples of “collections” of Yazichyan:
Latin foreign names: Lights, Comfort, Cavalier, Sun, King, Getz, Baron, Just, Roof, Taxi Busy, Glamour, Gold Extremal, Sweetway, Wolf, Matrix, Real, Relax, Music, Markiza, Fox, Green Way, Golden Cab, King Deluxe, Dream, Vin, Girl, Seven Star, Legion, etc.
Foreign names – Michelle, Mona, Rosie, Emanuel, Victoria, Alex, etc.
In Armenian, but foreign names: Edel, Golfview, Baloo, Cherry, Kozina, Lindeza, Sekas, Fiesta Gold, Comfort, Free Day, Comfort, Extra, Moon, etc.
Names of foreign countries, provinces and cities: Italia, Madrid, Milan, Moscow, Marsel, Texas, etc.
Misspelled names or incomprehensible: Kaiser, Okei, Aveo, Ervis, Baobab, Dovre, Priorra, Ru, and others.
Latin abbreviations – GAG & AN, Go & KA and others.
However, the funny thing is mangled names or nicknames: Miles, tags, Ash, Julie, Anulik, Kancho Aidik, Rudick, Hovo, hounds, Sergo, Gevo, Anna Gago, Lyov, Boca, Mick, Gogo, Monushka, Tamushka, etc.
Yazichyan met even the name “Shalom” in Latin letters.
It is also interesting that there is a name of a taxi “Armenia”, but there wasn’t “Hayastan.”
In all this diversity there are only a small percentage of Armenian names in the Armenian language, the owners of which, according to Yazichyana, should be encouraged: Zangezur Dvin, Karin, Javakhk Sardarapat, Ani, Yerevan, Barev (hello), Apaov (safe), Zhpit ( smile) and so on.
The study of names of taxi companies once convinced me that the Armenian people have deep roots in foreign things. Historians and psychologists have repeatedly explained this phenomenon: for centuries our nation was under foreign domination, etc., but not the time to get rid of this complex and its preferred someone else, especially since today we have an independent state, and to the same led by the government-oriented Nzhdeh’s ideology. “
