After Two Years in Armenia Will Be Able to Cure Cancer Using Individual Techniques

Work on the creation of the Armenian Center of excellence in treating cancer, which began two years ago, has already reached the stage of practical implementation. A few days ago the government signed an agreement with Belgian company «IBA molecular» about buying a proton accelerator “Tsiklotron18/18.

This device is unique in the region. Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritsyan said that such equipment is in neighboring capitals – Tehran, Moscow and Istanbul.

With the device will produce the radioisotopes needed for the diagnosis of cancer and cardiovascular disease, and cancer treatment. Isotopic analysis shows the tumor and helps the surgeon to navigate during surgery.

“One of the salient features of the equipment is that it can be used to carry out individual treatment – said the director of marketing and sales of Belgian company« IBA molecular », Peter Latener, – the exact diagnosis to select a particular method of treatment for each patient. Accordingly, it gained fame and spread rapidly in developing countries around the world. ”

“In Europe, America and the developed countries, the level of development is measured by the presence of such a center, as it gives an idea of a health care system,” – said Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritsyan. According to him, isotope production will begin in about two years, after which they can be exported, and the establishment of a center will require 3-3.5 years, which will take place in two stages: “But if they are private investment, then this work will be accelerated,” – said Minister.

The two ministries have estimated that the cost of patient care will amount to 1200-1300 dollars. Becora Papazian, director of national competitors, conducting this program in collaboration with the Ministries of Economy and Health, said that every year for cancer treatment from Armenia 600 people go abroad, spending incredibly large sums of money as pay not only treatment but also the road and rates. “But there are still people who in other ways make it to Europe and give up, because then the treatment is free,” – said Minister of Economy.

To purchase a cyclotron with a Belgian bank signed an agreement for a loan of 5 million euros. Period of loan repayment is 11 years three years, on concessional terms, 0% APR.
