Jagland also confirmed that China’s ambassador in Norway sent a letter to other diplomats accredited in Oslo, warning them to participate in the ceremony.
Previously was reported that the Nobel World Prize for 2010 awarded to Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo, a writer and former university lecturer. He is known as a critic of the Chinese government in 1989, he participated in the rally in Tiananmen Square. In 2009, Liu Xiaobo was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
Meanwhile, the Nobel committee in Oslo said last Thursday that six countries – Iraq, Kazakhstan, China, Cuba, Morocco and Russia – refused to accept an invitation to attend the award ceremony this year.
As reported by Interfax in Russian embassy in Norway, that Russian representatives will not attend the upcoming ceremony in Oslo, the Nobel World Prize, has no political motives. “There is no policy,” – said a spokesman for the Russian embassy, Vladimir Isupov.
He added that Russia’s ambassador to Norway has received personal invitations to the ceremony, but for those dates had long been planned working visit.
