Today is World Day “Consumerism”: Microsoft to combat piracy in the world carries the day, which this year celebrated in Armenia.
Armenia is among the five countries that are least protected against hacker attacks and other virtual threats. “The reason for this is that in Armenia, in most cases, unlicensed software,” – said at a meeting with journalists the head of Microsoft office in Armenia, Grigor Barseghian.
He said that according to 2009, the use of pirated software in Armenia is 90 percent instead of 96 percent in 2006.
“This year we expect to reduce the use of pirated products to 2-3 percent,” – says Barseghyan. According to him, surveys indicate that more people prefer to use licensed products.
“65 percent of respondents in Armenia believe that you need to buy original software, even if it is more expensive,” – says Barseghyan.
According to him, all over the world 75 percent of respondents need information in order to be able to distinguish fake and understand the associated risks.
Referring to differences between the prices of original and pirated products, Barseghyan notes that the cost of licensing the software package is justified as it protects the computer owner from the much larger losses.
