Azerbaijani side confirms missing Armenian citizen is Arthur Badalyan

The Azerbaijani side confirmed information that Armenian captive considered missing is Arthur Badalyan, Armen Kaprielyan, head of a working group at the Armenian Commission on POWs, Missing Person and Hostages told NEWS.am.

According to him, presently talks are conducted through the mediation of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). There is hope the Azerbaijani side will handover Armenian citizen Arhur Badalyan in the near future. He also stressed Azerbaijan did not specify why it had kept RA citizen’s name in secret for long time.

“Azerbaijan declines any comments on the matter. Azerbaijani side suddenly presented him to the Red Cross and said he is a civilian. At the end of last week, it became known the Armenian civilian is Arthur Badalyan,” Kaprielyan noted.

“Talks on the return of 6 Armenian servicemen are underway, but Azerbaijani side has not yet given a positive answer,” he emphasized.

As NEWS.am reported previously, Badalyan is a citizen of Haghartsin village of Tavush region, Armenia. He disappeared under mysterious circumstances on May 9, 2009 near Movses village located near the border.
