Swedish researchers have made a great leap in medicine making uterine transplantation.
The researchers of Geteborg Sahlgrenska University Hospital tried uterine transplantation surgery on rats. As a result the rats were able to conceive without any complications and gave birth.
This research can contribute to infertility treatment. “The transplantation of uterus may give hope to hundreds of women who currently are unable to conceive, a substitute maternity or adoption is an alternative,” said Lisa Yohaneson that participated in the project.
The transplantation successfully passed on mice, sheep and pigs. Note that the latter in terms of overall structure of the organism, have a lot in common with people.
As News.com.au has written, the next phase of research operations will be at babuins. If transplantation passes successfully, it is possible that trials will soon begin on people. The scientists themselves believe that the operation will be available in the next two years.
