Azerbaijan expresses concern over construction of new nuclear power station in Armenia to UN

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov met with Jan Kubiš, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in Geneva on October 1, press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told.

The sides emphasized the high level of cooperation within this organization, successful activity in the fields of energy, transportation, environment, customs, information-communication technologies, trade and other spheres within the UN Economic Commission, as well as importance of the elaboration of the new projects in the different spheres of economy and development of cooperation in this direction.

The deputy minister expressed Azerbaijan’s concern over the construction of a new nuclear power station in Armenia to the Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission and said that the new nuclear power station constructed on the basis of old one – Metsamor nuclear power station would be a source of serious threats to the environment and socio-economic situation in the region.
