Armenia awarded with 3 diplomas

At the “Book Art” international award-giving ceremony of CIC countries held within the 23rd Moscow international book exhibition-fair of September 1-6, Armenia was awarded with 3 diplomas. Edward Militonyan, head of the Armenian delegation, head of the publishing work agency of the Armenian Culture Ministry, said that about 50 publishers from Armenia have presented 170 items of books, as well as posters on the 500th anniversary of the Armenian printed book and on recognition of Yerevan as world book capital. Moscow-based Armenian writers, too, has presented their works in the Armenian pavilion. In the nomination of “Art Book” a first-class diploma was handed for “Ayvazovsky” album by Sh. Khachatryan published by “Tigran Mets” publishing house.
The work of “Armenian Art History” of “Zangak” publishing house received a second-class diploma in the nomination of “Science and Life”, and “Komitas” album of “Sargis Khachents” and “Print Info” publishing houses received a third-class diploma in the nomination of “Published in CIS”. According to Mr. Militonyan, suchlike exhibitions contribute to circulation of works of Armenian publishers throughout the world. “This is a window through which we show the Armenian book art to the whole world,” he said. The books and literature for children presented by the Armenian delegation during the Moscow exhibition-fair within state order were donated to the Armenian Embassy in Russia later to be conveyed to Armenian schools in Russia.
During the exhibition agreements were gained with book publishers of Macedonia, and agreements on cultural exchanges were achieved with Iran. “International exhibitions help to appraise our literary wealth, and in this issue the decision of UNESCO on recognizing Yerevan world book capital 2012 is of great honor for us,” Mr. Militonyan said. According to him, over 2000 books are published today in Armenia, which is a large number if we take into consideration the presence of electronic libraries.
