UN Department of Public Information supports Gyumri authorities and citizens’ efforts to clean the city
SOCIETY, Daily news | ankakh | September 15, 2010 12:22The event is conducted in the framework of the “Stand Up and Take Action” United Nations worldwide campaign aimed at mobilizing the public to unite their efforts with authorities to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
The UNDPI Yerevan Office Representative Ms. Maria Dotsenko said: “We are happy to support this important initiative of young people. I am confident that the population of Gyumri is going to continue taking care of their beautiful city and contribute to its development. It is crucial that the mayor of Gyumri and city authorities are working with us today and are supporting efforts of the young generation.”
Mr. Sergey Gabrielyan, Representative of the Youth Center and UN Corner added: “The youth of Gyumri is enthusiastic and loves the city, so I am sure that we will continue taking actions which can make our city even more clean and attractive. However the support of local authorities and of UNDPI is essential for us. I am proud of our contribution to Armenia’s achievement of the Millenium Development Goals”.
The event was organized by the Shirak Center for Organizing Youth Activities, within the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs and supported by the city mayor and municipal authorities as well as the UN Department of Public Information in partnership with the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs.
The event is also one of a series of events initiated by the UN DPI Yerevan within the framework of the Global Millennium Development Goals Summit, scheduled for 20-22 September 2010 in New York, as well as within the framework of the International Year of Youth: Dialogue and Mutual Understanding.
