The negotiations over the Association Agreement between Armenia and EU launched today in Yerevan supposes facilitation of visa regime to the European countries for the citizens of Armenia, the director of the European Commission’s Unit for Relations with Eastern Europe, Southern Caucasus and Central Asia Gunnar Wiegand said today at a joint news conference with the Armenian deputy foreign minister Karine Ghazinyan. In response to the question of “Armenpress” he noted that the agreement of facilitation of visa regime may enter into force earlier than the Association Agreement. The European Commission expects the mandate of the member-countries to start the negotiations with Armenia for signing of the two agreements – facilitation of visa regime and readmission.
G. Wiegand said that the agreement on facilitation of visa regime will facilitate for all the citizens of Armenia the order of getting visa for entering the European countries and will reduce the costs. The complete package of these agreements registers the free move of the people in the territory of the EU.
July 6 the first session of the justice, freedoms and security sub-committee dealing with the issue took place in Armenia. Karine Ghazinyan said it is a step toward facilitation of getting visa to the EU countries for the citizens of Armenia. By the end of the year notable progress will be registered in this issue.
G. Wiegand pointed out that negotiations will also be held over signing Deep and Comprehensive free trade agreement. The European Commission has the authority to start negotiations. A year ago Armenia was granted guarantees over which RA Economy Ministry is actively working. The sooner the guarantees in different spheres will be implemented the sooner the negotiations with Armenia will start.
The signing of Deep and Comprehensive free trade agreement will ensure more deep integration into the European market, will add investments in Armenia.
