“Mr. Mammadyarov’s assertion that occupation is occupation is, certainly, right, what implies that Azerbaijan should withdraw its armed forces from the occupied territories of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. It is also right that Nagorno-Karabakh annexation by Azerbaijan is ruled out, Nagorno-Karabakh people proved it in the war unbridled by Azerbaijan,” Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan told Panorama.am commenting on Azerbaijani Foreign Minister’s assessments of Muskoka statement over unacceptability of “occupation and annexation” and establishment of peace basing on norms of the international law.

“I hail the assertion that peace should be based on norms of the international law. I hope Azerbaijani Foreign Minister has not forgotten that one of the basic provisions of international law is equality of rights and self-determination of peoples, what is the goal of the UN. Even if he has forgotten it, Muskoka statement reminds him and his leaders that it’s not them who decide Nagorno-Karabakh status but NKR people, by legally binding expression of will,” Sh. Kocharyan said.
