On June 22, as it was scheduled, a meeting was held at the PACE Chairman between the Armenian and Azerbaijani delegations. According to the proposal of the Armenian party put forth during the previous meeting, the regular consultation was held in an extensive staff, with participation of one representative of opposition from each party. From the Armenian party Armen Rustamyan and Davit Harutyunyan and from the Azerbaijani party Sabir Hajiyev and Samad Seidov partook.
Press service of the National Assembly of Armenia told Armenpress that according to Davit Harutyunyan and Armen Rustamyan, we can consider it a progress that this time the Azerbaijani party, soberly accepted that as long as the two parties have not specified the cooperation field, it is senseless to move forward, and that no PACE structure can replace the resolution format of the chairmanship of the Minsk group.
“Our major claim has always been and remains the same – the consultations between the parties must be continued so long as the main questions have not received answers, particularly, without having information on the running negotiations, as well as relevant experience and institutional capability, what kind of unique role any PACE format can play in the regulation of the conflict.
Hastiness in this issue is unacceptable and puts the reputation of the PACE under risk. We are against formation of a platform, which can turn into new theatrical stage of propaganda, which will complicate the strained relations even more.
So our proposal to continue the consultations between the parties was admitted. We also proposed to involve in the consultations the other members of the delegations. The revelation of this meeting was that the Azerbaijani party expressed wish of cooperation, for Azerbaijan had always excluded any cooperation in any format.
We expect Baku to officially confirm that position expressed by the two deputies. We want to reconfirm that we partake in these consultations keeping in mind that the consolidation of atmosphere of trust between our people and societies will create a necessary environment for an efficient negotiation process,” Davit Harutyunyan and Armen Rustamyan stated.
