On June 23 the special session of the National Assembly will continue to
discuss the project of making changes in the bills “About language” and “About the education”. The civil initiative “We are against the reopening of foreign
language schools” will arrange a protest demonstration. Join us and participate in the protest demonstration in front of the Government Conference
entrance hall on the St. Melik Adamian 2, on June 23, Wednesday, at
11.

2) In recent days, before the forthcoming discussion of the changes in the law “About language”,taking place in the National Assembly, the government
representatives claim that the alleged public demonstration against the reopening of foreign language schools is a result of the misunderstanding, and in fact it is only about two schools, and not about the unlimited distribution of foreign language education.
On this occasion we want to record the following:
Since April 20, when the government introduced the National Assembly
his notorious bills, day by day authorities “soften” their
position by trying to be “constructive” and ready to emerge “dialogue”.
Let us remind that generally no limit
was provided in the initial version of the bill. They began to speak of the 2% of the number of schools and then of 1%, and
after it of 15 schools, then 9, and thus, finally, about two.
On the other hand it is necessary to mention that the authorities are trying to divert
public attention by making the subject of the discussion
the planned number of foreign language schools, introducing this important issue as a quantitative dispute.
While there is not quantitative but qualitative, i.e.
fundamental problem, because even the opening of one foreign language school or one grade it is necessary to change the law “About language”, which is the reflection of the
Article 12 of the Constitution, as well as the 10th
Article of the Declaration of Independence, according to which the Republic of Armenia provides the Armenian language as
the state language, the use of it in all areas of life,
its creation the own system of education, science and culture. And it
means that the planned change of the law “About language” hits
the independence of our country.
And finally, we wish to emphasize that our protest is not directed against
any language, culture or nation, it is for the fact that all school subjects in Armenia, including, foreign languages are taught
exclusively in Armenian. And totally it does not matter whether in what foreign language the government plans to educate the Armenian children:
English, Russian, French, Turkish, or another one. They all are equally foreign
for us, for the Armenians.
