Just two year imprisonment for the rapes of children

Today the court of Erebuni and Nubarashen communities, headed by the judge Artush Gabrielyan, sentenced the teacher of Armenian and literature of the school 11 in Nubarashen Levon Avagyan to two year imprisonment for the rapes of children. He was arrested just in the hall of court.

The court found out that Avagyan for his sexual needs raped violently and even without it pupils of about 16 in 2006-2008. Five victims are included in this court, who are girls which Avagyan raped when they were only 12-15. Avagyan had found different reasons to stay alone with them for his intentions. In the course of the court many other cases were found out, which prove that Avagyan more than 23 years had been continuing his actions, had beaten his pupils, but the court considered that the term of these actions had passed.

The court quickly found him guilty by the first part of 142 article for sexual actions with teenagers and sentenced to imprisonment for 6months, and by the second part for such actions violently sentenced to imprisonment for 1.5year. And so Avagyan was sentenced to 2year imprisonment.

The court had trial by Avagyan’s petition, in this case witnesses are not listened to and facts are not examined.

The prosecutor Karen Batikyan had demanded 1.5year imprisonment for the accused, and Avagyan’s lawyer had suggested to ratify a punishment not related to imprisonment for his client.

The lawyer of victims Avag Lalayan says, that Avagyan must be accused for both beating and tortures. “ If we presented our arguments, he would have stricter punishment. Avagyan recognized his guilt, as there was a chance for softer punishment”, Lalayan says.

One of the victims mentions that two years are very few as punishment. “I hoped him to be sentenced to imprisonment for 3 or 4 years to realize his guilt”.

As in the previous trial, a group of people was gathered in front of the court to express their protest against the soft punishment of Avagyan.

“They quickly give verdict without hearing the facts of victims. If they spoke, the list of criminals would increase. We demand the whole truth to be discovered. We want both the criminal and people, who have been trying to entangle this case for 2years, to be punished”, says Mariam Sukhudyan, by the help of which the illegality, taking place in the 11 school of Nubarashen, was found out.

Sukhudyan says, that they will fight till the end. The headmaster Merujan Engibaryan still continues to rule the school, though according to Sukhudyan, it was found out that pupils frequently had informed him about Avagyan’s actions, but he had not believed them and even had beaten. He also received healthy children to school for the intellectual backward by fictitious documents.

“Even the Minister of Education and Science Ashotyan announced that 4 healthy children were received to other schools. Why has not a criminal case caused yet?”- Sukhudyan asks.
