“There is a fear that the initiative of the reopening of foreign language schools is a result of not the internal demands or of the world art, but it is the result of the external pressure. There is a fear that the practice of filling Armenia with Russian schools will restart”, the writer and publicist Hakob Movses and the previous Minister of Education and Science Ashot Bleyan announced during the meeting with correspondents today.
According to Bleyan the project of law suggested to the National committee is unaccepted with its’ meaning and is against the state and the following generations. Bleyan says that the law “ About the language” since 1993 hasn’t provided foreign language education in Armenia and the new project breaks the law and is against the Constitution of RA.
Bleyan also mentions, that foreign language schools existing abroad are only for the national minority living in that country, which also exists in Armenia. “General educational school can not but be united in Armenia, otherwise it will cause inequality”, says Bleyan adding, that foreign language education won’t give an opportunity for the opening and developing children’s talents.” We have already had the experience of Russian schools. Not knowing the language a child can’t learn all the subjects in that language”.
According to Hakob Movses’ words it is an inconsistent situation – an Armenian intelligent is a stupid if he doesn’t know his native language, as well as an intelligent and a citizen is stupid who isn’t informed about the world art. According to Hakob Movses the Niderlands found the solution of this problem, where the teaching in the state language is obligatory, and private schools have right to choose the language of teaching.
In Bleyan’s opinion General education must be only in Armenian, and “the system of nowadays senior schools gives chances for teaching of foreign languages”.
