Yerevan–Raffi Hovannisian presided today over an unprecedented demonstration of support at Liberty Square, where tens of thousands gathered to chant “Ha-yas-tan” and to receive their rightful president.
After briefing the crowd about yesterday’s meeting with acting president Serzh Sargsyan–during which the authorities failed once again to recognize their defeat in the February 18 elections–Hovannisian vowed to carry on the struggle until the triumph of the Armenian people.
“I stand before you to say that we will not surrender, we will not hide, and we will not rest until the voice of our people is heard in our government,” he said. “City by city, village by village, we will take our country back.”
In the end Hovannisian announced the launch tomorrow of a victory tour, which will take him to the towns and cities where–even according to official results–the people resoundingly defeated the authorities and elected a new president for the Republic of Armenia.
