The European Commission against Racism and Intolerance visited Armenia
Worldwide, Daily news | ankakh | April 1, 2010 2:29The delegation of European Commission against Racism and Intolerance visited Armenia (ECRI) visited Armenia from the 23rd to 16th of March. The delegation collected information about the implementation of the proposals made in the report 2006 to the authorities and discussed new developments.
The delegation conducted meetings with the representatives of all relevant ministries, officials and Human Rights NGOs. It also paid visits to the places designed for asylum seekers and refugees as well as the provinces and villages inhabited by the national minorities.
After the completion of the visits, the delegation will prepare a report with new proposals on the struggle against racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, anti-Semitism intolerance. An additional investigation will be carried out in respect of the two of the mentioned above topics which will be a part of the forthcoming interim report.
The delegation expressed its regrets in the country report 2006 about the absence of general civic and administrative legislation that would cover the issues of discrimination. The delegation found out that the Yezidis community continues to encounter problems. The delegation made proposals to introduce further changes in the Law on Alternative Military Service.
