A growing tendency of crimes based on narcotics circulation continues to be felt in Armenia
People, Daily news | ankakh | March 31, 2010 20:13According to the Head Department against Organized Crime of the RA, the crimes related to the circulation of narcotics and drugs rises from year to year. The violations of law in connection with the use of narcotics steadily grow too. The tendency for growth kept on during the first three month of the year too. The hearings dedicated to the topic titled ‘The Success of Struggle against the Illegal Circulation of Narcotics and the Crime Based on the Use of Narcotics’ were held at the National Assembly on March 31.
According the official statistical data, the number of the above described crimes comprised 1238 and the violations of law resulting from the use of drugs comprised 130 cases in 2009. The respective numbers for 2008 were 763 and 22 cases. 56kg. and 762 gram of various types of narcotics were found out and seized against the respective 24 kg. 399 gram in 2008. 779 in 2009 and 493 persons were brought to criminal justice for the crimes related to the illegal circulation of narcotics. 25 out of the 779 were women, 8 of juvenile age and 30 persons were foreign nationals. A growth in the number of crimes was also revealed at the penitentiary institutions. 119 out of 149 of the registered cases were related to the illegal circulation of the narcotics and 6 persons working at these institutions were brought to justice.
The number of persons brought to the Clinics of Narcology under the control of the Ministry of Health and to the Bureau of Investigations for testing and treatment nearly doubled. It was also mentioned that despite the rise in the number of such crimes, the cases inside the law enforcement agencies were not registered excepting the junior level groups of the police who were found using the narcotics but they were not found circulating them. 1-2 cases were found at this level of the police and the persons responsible were brought to justice. No serious circulation of the narcotics and drugs were indentified within the Armenia army.
