A man fell ill after being given anti-psychotic drugs when he was mistaken for a patient who had escaped from mental health hospital.
The man was picked up by police and detained atGraylandsHospital, inPerth,Australia, after a patient escaped in mid-December.
Authorities did not realise they had the wrong man until after they gave him the powerful drugs, leading to him needing hospital treatment.
The case of mistaken identity took place after Graylands Hospital called to help locate a patient who had left without permission, News.com.au reported.
A man with the same description was brought back to the hospital by police, where staff then mistakenly identified him as the escaped patient and administered various anti-psychotic drugs to the innocent man.
According to reports, WA Mental Health Minister Helen Morton apologised for the ‘dreadful mistake’ and an investigation into the incident is now underway.
