Starting from the 1st of May the hardship allowance level will be raised and starting from the 1st of November the basic pension will also be raised due to the decision of the government of RA. The basic pension level will rise by 11%, whereas the hardship allowance will be raised by 15%. The Minister of Finance of RA Tigran Davtyan noted that it is the impact of the changes of the gas tariffs. In general, from 6 to 6.5 million drams of supplementary allocations are necessary. The pension system covers 530 000 citizens. The hardship allowance is received 110 000 citizens.
According to the words of the Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, these increases will allow moderating social problems. ‘Armenia found itself in the area of sharp rising of prices during the past period. It is understandable that under such circumstances the effectiveness of the social programs plays an important role. We should be able to compensate to the families with low income for the damage that they incur as a result of the financial situation,’ said the Prime Minister. According to him, the initial calculations presupposed the rise of the hardship allowance by 10% only. However, following the discussion that took place today at the office of the President of RA, a recommendation was adopted to raise the hardship allowances by 15%.
