The appeals were refused

By the decision of October 31, 2012 the Court of Criminal Appeals of the Republic of Armenia refused the appeals submitted by the defences of 6 defendants who had been found guilty for knowing and not informing about high treason and crime.
Thus, the 06.04.12 sentence of the Court of First Instance of Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative districts has come into force.
Let us remind that according to the sentence of the Court of First Instance of Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative districts it was grounded that three citizens of Armenia Karen Mehrabyan, Romik Matevosyan and Ashot Chtkryan had been recruited by the Azerbaijani intelligence services in Turkey and offered to cooperate with them in exchange for appropriate payment. . In particular, they had been tasked to find information about the Armenian and Nagorno Karabakh armed forces, commanders, units and equipment quantity.
Besides, it turned out that the citizens of Armenia Karen Petrosyan, Artur Avetikyan and Davit Avetikyan knew that K. Mehrabyan had committed to provide information to the Azerbaijani intelligence services and failed to report about it to the law enforcement agencies.
According to the sentence of April 6, 2012 the defendant Karen Mehrabyan had been found guilty pursuant to the RA Criminal Code Article 299, part 1and sentenced to 14 years in prison with confiscation of the half of property. Romik Matevosyan had been found guilty pursuant to the RA Criminal Code Article 299, part 1( High treason, i.e. siding with the enemy, espionage, transfer of state secrets to a foreign state or assisting in the implementation of hostile action committed by a citizen of the Republic of Armenia) and sentenced to 10 years in prison without property confiscation. Ashot Chtkryan was found guilty pursuant to the RA Criminal Code Article 38-299, part 1 and sentenced to 10 years in prison without property confiscation. Karen Petrosyan and Artur Avetikyan had been found guilty pursuant to the RA Criminal Code Article 335, part 1 and sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison. Davit Avetikyan was found guilty pursuant to the RA Criminal Code Article 335, part 1 and sentenced to fine in the amount of 500 000 AMD.
Note; Everyone charged with a criminal offence shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law.
