YEREVAN. – Newly elected Russian President Vladimir Putin would like to be a mediator between Armenia and Azerbaijan, however, he is not so patient as the former president Medvedev was, expert Richard Giragosian said at a press conference on Monday.
“If Medvedev was a supporter of a hand shaking, Putin prefers to break hands,” he said adding the method however, will not work for Armenia.
In addition Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan has good relations with Putin, while the incumbent one Serzh Sargsyan does not. This factor should be regarded as positive which means Putin’s pressure will not affect Armenia, the expert believes.
“As for the OSCE Minsk Group, Putin will take the leadership,” the expert said stressing that Russia is likely to improve relations with Azerbaijan in the sphere of selling weaponry and concluding energy contracts.
