Young human rights activists shared their creative view of human rights at a photo exhibition titled “Youth for Human Rights”, which aims to raise public awareness on human rights issues and to promote youth activism.  It was open today at the UN House.

The exhibition is supported by the UN Department of Public Information and is organized in the framework of the project on Human rights implemented by the “Integrum” youth NGO.

This project is also supported by the Social Transformation Program of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the ABA/CEELI-Armenia.

The exhibition complements the country’s efforts aimed to involve more young people to be more active members of the society and to increase their knowledge of human rights and how to promote and protect them.

The photos are captured by young Armenians who tried to show the human rights concept from different angles in their day-to-day life. The photos illustrate the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia.

Maria Dotsenko, UN Department of Public Information Representative said: “The importance of human rights has been underlined over and over during recent years.  Across the globe, people mobilize to demand justice, dignity, equality, participation — the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration. The UNDPI in Armenia supports the joint efforts of the Government and civil society aimed at improving the public understanding and respect for human rights.”

Ruzanna Nahapetyan, Project Manager of the “Integrum” Youth NGO presented to the public the background of the project implemented and the results.  She also thanked the participants of the project and the partner organizations, as well as the audience. She hoped that the exhibition would be a reminder for people on the essence of human rights protection and promotion.

The exhibition will be open to the public until 24 February, 2012 on Mondays to Fridays from 15:00 till 17:00.
