YEREVAN. – Armenian News-NEWS.am’s correspondent interviewed Armenia’s newly appointed Police Chief, Lieutenant General Vladimir Gasparyan, and below is an excerpt from the questions and answers:
Immediately after your appointment, you had stated there would not be a personnel “massacre.” But don’t the active changes mean you are in contradiction with your statement?
What is happening these days cannot be considered a personnel “massacre,” since, first of all, several appointments were made to vacant posts, [and] rotation was made, in other cases. In several cases, dismissals were made of those who were causing certain tension, by their activities and work method, and they had an “immovable” status, at many times. Those with a “tourist” status are being dismissed, too.
What will be the primary issues?
The primary issues are qualitative change [and] new system of values, whose objective is to return what was taken away from the uniform, over the years, [and] to transform the police officer. [And] To carry out structural changes in the system, so that the Police Force becomes more operative, [and] more perceptible for the society.
