UN Office in Armenia Marks International Youth Day
SOCIETY, Daily news | ankakh | August 11, 2011 20:34An art exhibition aimed at motivating young people to change our world, dedicated to the International Youth Day, was opened today at the UN House.
The bright paintings of the talented Armenian painter Narek Avetissian were exhibited. His artwork displayed at the UN House has attracted the attention of youth, the international and art communities, civil society, the media and the general public.
The exhibition is aimed at complimenting the country’s efforts to raise public awareness on youth issues by mobilizing young people to be more proactive in building a better future.
Maria Dotsenko, acting UN Resident Coordinator said: “Through Armenian art, the UN Office in Armenia wishes to once again attract public attention to the promotion of youth empowerment. Together with our partners we continue to motivate them to make valuable contributions to the political, economic, and cultural development of the Armenian society. Art is a productive way of enhancing the dialogue for peace and sustainability.”
Sona Harutyunyan, Head of the Modern Art Department of the Ministry of Culture added: “The Ministry of Culture of Armenia is happy to cooperate with UN Armenia Office in the field of promotion of modern art. On behalf of the Ministry I would express my gratitude to the United Nations for its efforts to promote Armenian modern art.”
The event is organized by the UN Department of Public Information in cooperation with the Modern Art and Folk Art Directorate of the Ministry of Culture of Armenia.
The International Day of Youth is being marked worldwide on August 12 since 1999, by the decision of the United Nations General Assembly. This decision highlights the importance that UN Member States give to youth issues including them in their national, regional and global agenda.
