Armenia considers possibility of recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh’s independence, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said in an interview with the Moscow Newsnewspaper.  It will be possible, for instance, if hostilities resume, he said.

“Why doesn’t Armenia recognize independence of Nagorno-Karabakh? We do not do it because we are holding negotiations, whereas recognition of Karabakh would mean we break off the talks. It is better to negotiate,” he said.

Commenting on newly formed countries in the South Caucasus, President Sargsyan noted that the Karabakh conflict differs.

“All these conflicts are unique. Each has its own causes, consequences and developments. Formation of new countries, as a precedent, positively affects international perceptions of Karabakh people’s rights,” Sargsyan said.
