The President of Armenia noted that after Armenia regained independence and established diplomatic relations with Lithuania, the bilateral relations have been developing dynamically. Lithuania was the first state to recognize our independence and Lithuania was the first country Armenia signed an international agreement with. According to Serzh Sargsyan, today the two states have good opportunities to discuss issues related to the development of bilateral relations and cooperation, forming an agenda for the future.

“Your visit is significant also because currently Lithuania holds Chairmanship at the OSCE. It is, undoubtedly, an honorary and responsible mission, and it speaks about your country’s readiness to assume responsibility before the international community,” said President Sargsyan.

According to the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė, the Armenian-Lithuanian relations enter a new phase which is excellent. She noted that years ago it was very important for her country to recognize all newly independent states just as they recognized Lithuania, opening, thus, a new page of history.

“For that very reason, we want everyone, who twenty years ago became independent and today continue to develop, be prosperous and able to help each other. We understand each other better then the others, who had never been so close historically. I am also delighted that we understand each other and can be helpful to each other in economic as well as international issues,” stressed President Dalia Grybauskaitė.

After the meeting, the Presidents of Armenia and Lithuania made a joint press statement and recapped the results of the meeting.
