Dashnaksutyun finds negotiations over common leader impossible

The Armenian Revolutionary Federation – Dashankstutyun (ARFD-D) cannot collaborate with any political party over the issue of selecting a single leader, a top ARF-D member has said.

“No political force respecting itself can collaborate with anyone over a concrete leader,” Vahan Hovhannisyan, the leader of the ARF-D faction in parliament, told a discussion at Civilitas foundation on Wednesday.

In the meantime he didn’t rule out the possibility of collaborating over specific projects.

“We can collaborate over a specific project or plan, or discuss possibilities of fair elections. But we can never decide together who is to be the nation’s father or grandfather,” he said.

This comes after David Shahnazaryan of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) called on the parliamentary opposition (ARF-D and Heritage) not to burn bridges of collaboration with ANC.

“Their approach will lead to marginalization. They will either appear in the political archive or find themselves in the authorities’ playground,” Shahnazaryan said at a news conference earlier on Wednesday.
