According to the minister, only best technologies will be used in the construction of future power unit in Armenian nuclear power plant. Priority will be given to the technologies “related to the security,” told Movsisyan. Armenian nuclear power plant is monitored on daily basis by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and we obviously cannot run the power unit if there is any concern related to the security, he added.

“It is also important to note that the troubles on Japanese Fukushima were triggered by tsunami rather than by an earthquake,” added Minister Movsisyan. “In addition, our [Armenian] nuclear power plant has already withstood the test of earthquake in 1988.”

Concerning the construction of new power unit, Armen Movsisyan told that above all there must be an appropriate design, which later will be discussed in the government with the participation of different expert groups. After the endorsement of the design, an organization that will be responsible for the new power unit will be selected.

Minister Movsisyan told that in April 27 and 28 Armenia will hold an international conference. Both equipment manufacturers and potential investors will be invited to participate in the conference and to submit their offers for consideration.
